Department of English which was established in 1986, has been the parent department from the time of inception of the College. Curriculum of English encompasses the study of the language as well as it’s literature. The Curriculum for English as General paper( B. A., B. Sc., B. Com) is designed in such a manner that the studens n sharpen their language skills as well as the knowledge of literature.

The Curriculum of English Honours course includes the study of various English literary works from different corners of the world. Literature is l l reflection of life and the study of it will enhance the sensibility and understanding of the nuances of human life, and it’s society. The process of learning literature not only proviedes the knowledge and meanings of prescribed literary  works but also acquires the understanding of the language and improves students’ vocabulary. The Department is run by enthusiastic and well – qualified, experienced faculties, specialized in different areas of literature. Each Course has its distinctive objectives and learning outcomes.

Program Outcomes and Course Outcomes

Objectives  of  the Course :

1. Impart knowledge and utility of English language through the study of literature.

2. Train the students to enhance the critical faculties necessary for the academic advancement,  for job and better understanding of the changing world.

3. To bring awareness of the value and pleasure of reading good literary works.

4. To develop an appreciation and deeper understanding of important human concerns and human relationships.

5. To be able to speak English fluently and accurately. To acquire good vocabulary.

Programme Outcomes :

1. Students with developed skills of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking will have a strong foundation of the English language.

2. Students should be familiarized with the representative literary and cultural texts of different historical, geographical and cultural contexts.

3. Students with knowledge of the critical and theoretical approaches will be able to identify, analyze and understand the nuances of the literary texts which enable them to have a better understanding of the people and society.

4. Students should be able to carry out critical analysis of texts belonging to different genres.

5. Student should be able to write analytically in variety of formats, including essays, research papers, reflective writing, and critical reviews of secondary sources

6. Students should be able to understand the process of communication and interpretation  of human experiences through the study of literature.
