The Department of Human Rights and its Value Education, Naorem Birahari College stands as a beacon of education and advocacy within the academic landscape. Established in March, 2021to meet the growing need for deep, critical understanding of human rights issues globally, the department is committed to empowering students with knowledge, skills, and the ethical foundation required tackling these challenges head-on.
Overview
Our curriculum is designed to foster a profound understanding of human rights principles, their historical development, and their application in various fields. Students are introduced to a wide range of topics, including international human rights law, the sociology of rights, comparative human rights, and specific issues such as gender rights, refugees, and indigenous rights. Our program encourages a multidisciplinary approach, drawing on insights from law, sociology, anthropology, political science, and history to provide a holistic understanding of human rights.

Department Achievements

Research and Publications: Faculty and students alike contribute to the field of human rights and exploring themselves through filed survey around the college area during the Covid-19 Pandemic. A book title “Human Rights
and Global Pandemic” was successfully published with three faculties as co-author.
- International Conferences and Seminars: The department regularly host and participate in international conferences and seminars, bringing together scholars, practitioners, and students from around the world. These events facilitate the exchange of ideas and foster a global network of human rights advocates. Some of them are Faculty’s achievement included its successfully organizing Hybrid International Conference on Global Rights and Global Pandemics held on 10th and 11th December 2021. This scholarly work not only advances theoretical understanding but also influences policy and practice in tangible ways. It organised One-Day Workshop on Departmental Profile and Interaction with Peer Team- NAAC held on 9th June, 2022. It also organised Constitutional Day on 26th November 2022. Furthermore, it also recently organised One day awareness programmes on New Criminal laws on 1th July 2024.

Future Outlook Looking forward, the Department of Human Rights and its value Education is committed to expanding its reach and impact. Plans include launching new interdisciplinary courses, increasing community partnerships, and enhancing support for student-led human rights initiatives.
